Earlier in the day -"Courageous" and "Princess" where used for the first time to move the Lindley Oil tankers down the line to the processing works and are now being used to top & tail the Deltic back down to Strand Road.
Here "Courageous" pulls Deltic onto the swing bridge tailed by "Princess"

70 viewsAt the back of the driving position and between the engine compartment, there are some panels - Removing one of the panel covers shows the state of the electrics - bakealite switches. Not very safe after 60 years. These would all have to be replaced with modern switch gear and all upgraded before it would be allowed to run again.
It would not be the same machine if done. Just a shell of the original machine would remain.

56 viewsThe prototype required a second man - this was his seat and controls looking after the train heating plus other duties. Lower right there is a small hot plate, so no doubt his job was to brew up as well. They couldn`t drink too much - no toilets in this prototype and no stopping on long distances!00000
